Becoming a Patient at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinics
Our clinics are designed to provide comprehensive and referral dental services for infants, children, adolescents and persons with special health care needs. Treatment may be recommended by one of the following providers: students, residents, or faculty. Excellent dentistry will be provided with all three options.
Pre-doctoral students (dental students): Dental students begin seeing pediatric dental patients in their third year of dental school. Treatment is provided in the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic on the second level of the Dental Science Building. [Map to Dental Science Building] Extra time is allowed for treatment and the treatment is carefully supervised by faculty. Your contribution to our educational program results in a reduced fee. To schedule an appointment, call (319) 335-7485.
Residents: Pediatric dentistry residents have graduated from dental school and are receiving advanced training in pediatric dentistry. You may be referred to the resident clinics from within the College of Dentistry due to case complexity or by your own dental provider for reduced specialty fees. The University of Iowa is the only dental school in the country to offer graduate programs in every ADA-recognized specialty area. To schedule an appointment, call (319)335-7485.
Faculty Private Practice
Faculty Private Practice: Our faculty pediatric dentists see patients in their private practices at the Center for Disabilities and Development (building adjacent to the College of Dentistry). [Map to Center for Disabilities & Development] Fees and time commitment are comparable to private dental offices. All dental specialties are available for consultation and special treatment needs. This allows for convenient and easily coordinated referrals. To schedule an appointment, call (319) 353-6711.
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry has an outreach clinic in the lower level of the Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA) building in Muscatine Iowa. Staffed by department faculty, residents, staff members and fourth year dental students, the clinic is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The target population for the clinic is the “unserved” or “underserved” children, aged 0 to 12, residing in Muscatine and Louisa counties.
The clinic offers primary dental care to children regardless of insurance status or income. It accepts Medicaid payments and offers sliding fee adjustments to uninsured, underinsured or undocumented families as needed. The clinic is a collaborative effort of MCSA, the College of Dentistry and the Muscatine Health Support Foundation. To schedule an appointment, call 563-263-0895.
